Choosing A Singing Bowl For Yourself

When choosing a singing bowl for yourself, the most important thing to consider is the sound of the bowl.

Remember that beyond the often mystical ideas surrounding singing bowls, at their root, they are an instrument. The purpose of this instrument is to create sound waves that can change and entrain your brain waves.

A mentor would urge that the way to choose a singing bowl, is to let the singing bowl choose you.

I invite you to suspend the logical part of your brain, addicted to thinking. Instead, feel your way through the singing bowl selection. This is about utilizing sound as a form of therapy. So the sound is what makes all the difference. For every singing bowl we offer, we’ve included sound clips for you to sample the feeling the bowl will give you.

Our humble suggestion is to close your eyes, and listen to the recording of each bowl, paying attention to what you feel, and where in your body you feel it. It is important to choose a singing bowl with an excellent voice--one that moves you and makes you feel something. Do you feel moved? Inspired? Calmed?  Are there any tingling sensations in any area of your body? Your future singing bowl should make you feel good!

There are other considerations to selecting a singing bowl, like aesthetics and price. In addition to their use as a form of sound therapy, these are hand-made works of art. Do you enjoy the design? Does the idea of having this bowl in your space inspire you, by its very presence?

And don't worry about making a poor decision - we have a lifetime “love it,” guarantee on every single product we offer. We exist to bring you items you’ll love. If you don’t love it, for any reason and at any time, we will arrange either a full refund or an exchange for another item.

Choosing A Singing Bowl For A Friend Or Loved One

Choosing a singing bowl for a friend or loved one is slightly different, in that you cannot “feel” it for them. This should not discourage you from surprising a friend or loved one with a singing bowl.

Just as you go about choosing a bowl for yourself, we encourage you to listen to each singing bowl on our website. While going through this, keep the person for whom you’re buying in mind, and subtly ask yourself if your intuition tells you this bowl is right for them.

Remember that every single bowl is protected by our lifetime “love it,” promise. If your friend or family member feels that a different bowl would serve them better, we will do everything needed to ensure that they get a bowl that serves their life well.

If you’d prefer that your friend make the choice, we’ve just listed a gift card option on our website. You can choose an amount, and then have this special gift card sent (electronically) to your friend or family member so that they can choose for themselves!

Know Where Your Bowl Comes From

The majority of our singing bowls are entirely made in Kathmandu, Nepal. Two of our singing bowls originate in India, and then transferred to Nepal for the specialized etching finishing.

The Ohm Store has cultivated long-term partnerships with our artisan-partners in Nepal so that we can each work towards what we specialize in. We believe that we have created a mutually beneficial partnership that offers full time employment for more than 90 artisans in Nepal. By investing in our artisans over the long term, we can assist in keeping traditional pursuits alive by supporting them with a repeatable, predictable and reliable income. It’s our honor to be able to provide their handiwork to the western world.

You can check out our full selection of our singing bowls, and contact us personally if there’s anything we can expand on.

When I tried to hold the bowl and play around the rim way, it didn’t sound good. So I sat the bowl down on a bed table in front of me, and was able to play it that way. I could actually hear it singing with the striker stick circling the edge, but it was not making a pleasant noise. And this had me convinced for a while that maybe something was wrong with the bowl.

The feminine is power, the power is potent. The power is Shakti, the divine feminine. The fundamental life force that is the root of all creation in the cosmos. The darkness that absorbs the light, our powers of intuition, thought, feeling, and action.

The Emotion Generating Hypothesis

August 07, 2020

There’s an old axiom that asks, “What came first, the chicken or the egg?” In this brief philosophical experiment, I want to explore this idea as it relates to our emotional state.

It’s very easy for us human beings to tell a story about why we feel a certain way. We’re great at telling stories. And even greater at believing the stories we tell others, and ourselves.
