Prototype Gong 5 I 26.5 Inch Bronze Wind Gong: Made in India
A 26.5 inch Bronze, Mantra Gong.
There is a double dorje at the center of the playing face, the vishvavajra, the crossed vajra of Vajrayana tradition, symbol of indestructibility and the union of method and wisdom. This imagery is surrounded by concentric rings of Tibetan script that fill the entire disc.
The gong-plate is bronze, approximately 26.5 inches in diameter, formed as a flat disc without a boss or rim flange.
Sound
This instrument produces a mid-range fundamental centered around G3 at 192 Hz, with strong harmonic presence at C4, F4, G#4, and B4 filling out the 263 to 486 Hz range.
The voice is dense and singing rather than broad and enveloping, characteristic of a gong this size. The overtone structure is rich enough to evolve over that decay, the higher partials settling first and leaving the fundamental to carry the tail. At light strike force it is meditative and focused.
