Warm, wide-bodied fundamental with enough length to sustain well past the notes stacked above it. Creates a wash of sound. 

This tuning is F Lydian — the F major scale with a raised fourth. That single altered note, B natural instead of B♭, is what gives the instrument its character.

What would be tension in a chord progression becomes a persistent upward lean. It is the reason Lydian shows up so often in film scores under wide landscape shots.

The other consequence of a complete scale is roughness, and we mean that as a feature.

Play it as a scale and it is genuinely melodic. Play it as a cloud and it shimmers. Very few chimes do both.
