Gong 17 — 27 Inch Hand-Hammered Nepali Temple Gong One of a Kind

Nepali temple gongs are hand-hammered in the Kathmandu Valley by bronze craftsmen specialists.

This one is 27 inches across, hammered from a bronze in the bell-metal family, patinated dark, and finished with a full iconography that is unique to this one gong.

The central feature of this gong is a lotus pond with three stems rising from the water.
One large lotus blossom stands highest in the center, with a smaller open blossom on one side and a closed lotus bud on the other.

The stems rise from horizontal water lines at the base of the field. The surrounding border includes dotted rings, lotus medallions, and a broad outer band of floral and vine ornament.

The tone here is centered around a low A2, with A3 and A#3 partials above it that give the sustain a narrow, focused upper color.

Played with a soft mallet it opens with a strong low body and a measured shimmer above it, then settles into a steady bass-heavy decay.

The character is calm and centered, with the A2 voice doing most of the work while the upper partials add enough lift to keep the sustain from feeling flat.

Playing will favor a single clean strike and a slow roll that lets the low tone gather like water under the lotus stems. It sounds like a different instrument depending on how you choose to play it.
