5-Week Immersion. •  Inaugural Group of 10

An academic immersion in voice and world mantra traditions.

Immerse yourself in vocal training paired with a comparative study of devotional mantras from traditions around the world — taught by a classically trained vocal performer with a Ph.D. in Vocal Performance and forty years teaching voice.

Enroll in Voice & Mantra School

This program is part vocal technique training, part academic study of mantras and devotional chants from a wide range of world traditions — including Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, and West African, among others. Dr. Sandra teaches each with real cultural and religious context, translation, and respect for the tradition it comes from.

This is not a single-lineage devotional practice. It's a genuinely niche offering for people who are curious about vocal technique and comparative mantra study.

You might come to this for a personal mantra practice of your own, to train your voice as a discipline in itself, or to build toward the confidence to one day lead Kirtan. All three are welcome here.

Who this is — and isn't — for.

This is likely a fit if you:

— Are genuinely curious about vocal technique — breath, tone, and range — as its own discipline

— Want an academic, comparative introduction to mantras and devotional chant across many world traditions

— Are comfortable engaging respectfully with sacred material from religions and cultures other than your own

— Are drawn to a small, intimate cohort format (10 people) rather than a large course

This is probably not a fit if you:

— Are looking for a single-lineage or single-tradition devotional practice

— Would rather not engage with religious or devotional material outside your own background

— Are looking for a certification or credential rather than a study-and-practice immersion

Why This Exists

"One thing I have found in my many years leading mantra chanting, is that many people who enjoy mantras are intimidated by their own voice. Some have had voice lessons before, and know how to produce their voice, but most people haven't."

— Dr. Sandra Sluberski

Dr. Sandra built this immersion around two things she's spent decades with separately: real vocal technique, and a genuine, wide-ranging fluency in mantra traditions from around the world. Most mantra teaching assumes you already know how to use your voice. Most vocal training has nothing to do with mantra. This program treats both as worth studying properly, together — with the specific context, pronunciation, and cultural respect each tradition deserves.

A Practice You'll Study Directly

What is Kirtan, precisely?

Kirtan — Sanskrit for "praise" or "glorification" — is a devotional call-and-response chanting practice rooted in Bhakti yoga, the path of devotion within the Hindu tradition. One voice offers a mantra, the room chants it back, and the practice builds through repetition. It is fundamentally a devotional practice, not a performance or a wellness technique borrowed from it.

In this immersion, learning to lead a short Kirtan is presented as the culminating academic and vocal exercise of the program — a way to put technique and study into direct practice.

Some of its well-reported effects:

Calms the Mind

Rhythmic repetition gives the mind a simple melody to hold onto in place of daily chatter, while lowering cortisol and lifting mood through dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin.

Regulates the Body

Collective chanting activates the parasympathetic nervous system and stimulates the vagus nerve — lowering heart rate and blood pressure, easing anxiety, and supporting deeper sleep.

Builds Connection

Group chanting fosters genuine community and eases isolation, bypassing overthinking to open real feelings of peace, joy, and spiritual grounding.

Your Teacher

Dr. Sandra Sluberski

Ph.D., Vocal Performance · Sound School Faculty

Voice has been Dr. Sandra's entire career — decades of opera and concert recitals across the United States and Southeast Asia, alongside voiceover recording work for industrial films and audiobooks. With a Ph.D. in Vocal Performance and forty years teaching at the collegiate level, she brings the rigor of a classically trained vocal artist to this material.

Alongside her vocal career, she has spent years studying and leading mantras and Kirtan from a wide range of traditions, and teaches each one with its own cultural and religious context — the story behind a mantra, its translation, and the tradition it comes from — rather than treating them as interchangeable.

You may already know Dr. Sandra as one of our core faculty at Sound School — our 9-week Certification in Therapeutic Sound. This immersion is a distinct, separate offering: smaller, shorter, and academic in nature rather than a certification program.

Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask before joining.

  • What religions and traditions are actually covered?

Across the five weeks: Hindu (Sanskrit), Sikh (Punjabi), Buddhist (Pali), and devotional/folk material from Jewish, Christian, West African (Yoruba), Chinese, Arabic, Norwegian, German, and Spanish-language traditions, alongside English-language mantras. Each is taught with its translation and cultural or religious context.

  • Is this a religious or spiritual program?

It's academic in approach — Dr. Sandra teaches the history, translation, and cultural context of each mantra with genuine respect for the tradition it comes from, without asking you to adopt any of them personally. That said, the material itself is devotional and sacred to the cultures it comes from, so this is worth engaging thoughtfully rather than casually.

  • Do I need to be a singer?

No — in Dr. Sandra's words, you don't need to read music or have a background in choirs or voice lessons. Chanting and singing are different techniques; this course trains the former.

  • Why only 10 people?

This is the inaugural group, and the format is intentionally intimate — live weekly check-ins with direct access to Dr. Sandra rather than a large cohort.

  • How does this relate to Sound School?

Dr. Sandra is Sound School faculty, but this is a separate, distinct offering — shorter, smaller, and structured as an academic immersion rather than a certification program.

An intimate, information-rich immersion in voice and mantra.
