Who this course is for

This course meets you where you are.

Whether you just unboxed your first bowl or you've been playing for years — whether you want the science, the technique, or the professional credential — this is where your journey of becoming fluent with sound begins.

🎵
The Beginning Practitioner
You just got your first bowl and care to use it to its full potential. Learn about the intention of the instrument and proper technique. Modules 1–3 solve every beginner question in under 35 minutes.
🧠
The Scientific Thinker
You care to understand the mechanism behind sound and sound instruments such as singing bowls. You will learn about entrainment. Brainwave bands. Monaural beats. The parasympathetic nervous system. This course leads with the science so you understand the precision of what happens when you sing your bowl.
🧘
The Fluent Practitioner
You have a growing collection of singing bowls and love them. You care to go deeper — understand what's actually happening acoustically and neurologically, and build a more intentional daily practice.
😴
The Poor Sleeper
Chronically wired at night. Meditation apps haven't stuck. The course explains exactly why bowls do something apps can't, and the meditation library includes sessions built specifically for sleep and deep rest.
🌿
The Wellness Professional
Yoga teachers, therapists, bodyworkers, coaches. You want to add sound to your sessions — and you care to deepen your fluency, competence, vocabulary, and the science to share the healing power of sound with confidence.
🎓
The Aspiring Sound Practitioner
If you are called to share sound as a professional practitioner, if you imagine leading sound baths and share the power of sound as part of your service in the world — this course is where your path begins. You will gain the foundation — technique, theory, and the science — that professional practice is built on.
What you'll learn

The journey of fluency with sound.

The embodied approach to learning.

I
Modules 1 – 3
Communing with the Instrument
Practitioners note that fluency begins with your relationship with the instrument. How you choose the right bowl. How to strike and sing your instrument with confidence. This is where you not only learn technique, but begin to embody fluency.
II
Modules 4 – 9
Understanding the Mechanism
Understand frequency, entrainment, and the brainwave states your bowl can access. Learn why your bowl is a natural monaural beat generator — and how that activates the parasympathetic nervous system. This is where the practice stops being mysterious and starts being something you understand deeply.
III
Module 10
A Practice That's Yours
Eight guided sessions by recording artist Sonic Yogi — singing bowls, flute, drum, hang drum, and nature sounds. A permanent library you return to. This is where the course becomes a daily ritual. This is where you build a practice that allows your fluency to grow and unfold over time.

The Art & Science of Sound

What becomes available when you complete this course.

Choose your bowl with intentionUnderstand small, medium, and large sound profiles — you learn to select by resonance.
Sing your bowl with confidenceIn hand, on a cushion, and half-moon style — with correct pressure, speed, and hand position from the first session.
Identify what you're hearingThe fundamental tone, the overtone a fifth above, and the harmonic cascade that gives bowls their ethereal quality.
Command a full mallet vocabularySoft-head, felt, leather-wrapped, wood — know which to reach for and why, and how each changes the sound.
Explain the scienceDefine entrainment, name the brainwave bands with their frequency ranges, and describe how monaural beats guide the brain toward meditative states.
Interrupt your own stress responseUse bowls to break the perception–tension feedback loop, downshift brainwave states deliberately, and build a new relaxation baseline.
Run guided sessions for othersWith the technique vocabulary, science foundation, and mallet framework to begin sharing sound with competence.
Sustain a daily practiceEight guided sessions in the library — bowls, flute, breathwork, sleep sounds — invite you to deepen your own practice and embody the fluency of sound.
The curriculum

10 modules. 47 lessons.

Short, focused lessons averaging 3–6 minutes each — designed to be completed in an afternoon and returned to for years.

Module 1
Welcome & History
The origins of singing bowls — 3,800 years of lineage across Asia. What they're actually made of (and why the "seven sacred metals" legend isn't true). Where they're made today and how modern production creates a more consistent instrument.
5 lessons · ~6 min
Module 2
Choosing a Bowl
Small, medium, and large — what each actually sounds like and when to use it. Why every bowl contains multiple tones. And the contrarian take a classical musician gives: why you should ignore the chakra chart when choosing your first bowl.
6 lessons · ~15 min
Module 3
How to Play
The complete mallet vocabulary from soft-head to crystal. Holding, striking, singing — in hand, on cushion, and half-moon technique. Plus the three-question diagnostic for any bowl that won't sing, and the fix for each.
7 lessons · ~11 min
Module 4
Sound & Frequency
First principles: frequency is how often something repeats — drumbeats, sound waves, and brainwaves are all the same phenomenon at different speeds. The four brainwave states with their actual Hz ranges. Why most of us are stuck in one gear.
5 lessons · ~14 min
Module 5
Consciousness & Stress
Entrainment — the brain's frequency-following response, discovered when Christiaan Huygens noticed his pendulum clocks synchronizing in 1665. Why singing bowls are natural monaural beat generators. How sound shifts state without a substance.
4 lessons · ~16 min
Module 6
Structure & Harmony
Harmony and dissonance as a map for the mind. Why stress is dissonance between how things are and how we want them to be. And the insight that separates bowls from playlists: why the brain can't predict bowl sound — and why that matters.
4 lessons · ~14 min
Module 7
Releasing Stress
The stress loop has two levers — perception and physiology. Sound is the interrupt mechanism. How bowls remind the nervous system how to be calm, and what that means for building a new baseline.
2 lessons · ~5 min
Module 8
Awareness & Neuroplasticity
Neurons that fire together wire together. How musicians and golfers retrain technique by slowing to a rhythm — and how sound meditation does the same for the nervous system. Practice doesn't make perfect. Practice creates permanence.
3 lessons · ~12 min
Module 9
From Head to Harmony
The capstone. Pythagoras dividing the string. The harmonic series and its presence in galaxies, seashells, and flower petals. Why the harmonies we find beautiful are written into nature — and what that means for the sound of a bowl.
5 lessons · ~21 min
Module 10
Guided Meditation Library
Eight sessions by recording artist Sonic Yogi: the flagship 14-minute singing bowl meditation, chakra flute meditations, a drum and bowl breath practice, hang drum and piano, and Third Eye Bowls with nature sounds. Yours forever.
8 sessions · 45+ min

Lead Instructor
Jonathan Adams
Sonic Yogi

Jonathan is a classically trained musician and recording artist who came to sound healing through his own recovery from acute anxiety. He didn't find a bowl in a yoga studio — he came to it as a trained musician who needed something his training hadn't given him. That journey through the science, the history, and the practice is the curriculum.

Classically trained musician and recording artist
Chose his first bowl by feel, not theory — then spent years understanding why that was right
Guided meditation library includes original compositions across bowl, flute, drum, and hang drum
Teaches the science with the precision of a musician and the empathy of someone who's been anxious

Common questions

Common questions.

"I'm not musical at all. Will I be lost?"
The guided arc of this course is designed to be truly comprehensive and truly accessible, as a foundational starting point on your journey to sound fluency. The course starts at "which bowl do I buy?" Module 3 has you singing a bowl within the first lesson. Published research found singing bowl meditation worked especially well for first-time practitioners.
"Is this just spiritual stuff I won't connect with?"
The course opens with NIH-published research, explains entrainment through Huygens' 1665 physics experiment, and names brainwave bands with actual Hz frequencies. You will find the curriculum's scientific approach grounding and insightful, without being too dense or hard to digest.
"My bowl won't sing and I've been frustrated."
Module 3 has a three-question diagnostic framework: Is it the bowl? (Rarely.) Is it the mallet? (Often.) Is it the technique? (Almost always.) Most people fix it in under ten minutes once they understand what's actually happening.
"I already have bowls and know how to play them."
Modules 1–3 might be review for you. Modules 4–9 will likely take your practice to a new level you might be craving. The science of what your bowls are actually doing to your nervous system — entrainment, monaural beats, brainwave shifting, parasympathetic activation — is what most practitioners never learn.
"I want to lead sound baths professionally. Is this enough?"
This is the foundation and a strong starting point for aspiring professional practitioners. Technique, vocabulary, science, and a practice library — everything you need to begin to embody the fluency of sound and become a grounded practitioner.
